Although strongly based on the American Blues, Folk and Country music, Skiffle was primarily a British thing. It was born out of the 'break-down group' within the Ken Colyer Jazzmen, with the mantle being passed to Lonnie Donegan and others. Its popularity as far as the 'Hit Parade' was concerned lasted on for two or three years. Its mentor, the British Traditional jazz scene, was to last a lot longer, and although now out of the charts, it remains a very happy place to visit. Skiffle went underground until it reared its head again when groups were put together for jazz weekends. At the moment it is having a small resurgence through the efforts of the Donegan family, some localised groups, and the Paul Leegan band.
This latest offering from the group takes them firmly back to those 'misty days' of the 1950s, with a selection of Skiffle songs that were on everyone's lips at that time. They do a very good job at re-creating that era. Excellently recorded by Ramer Sound, it should be available from your local record store - if not, ask why.
If you want to dip into the realms of nostalgia, which we all do constantly, then i can recommend this CD to those who love a dose of Skiffle.
