Legends Take Crowd On A Musical Journey
Putting On The Style, Buccleuch Centre, Friday 24th April 2009
PUTTING On The Style is a musical journey no true rock n roller should have missed.
Unfortunately many did, but the appreciative audience who were at the Beccleuch Centre last Friday enjoyed a great evening of nostalgia as they were transported back in time, thanks to Paul Leegan and The Legends.
I grew up with skiffle, my cousin forming a band back in the fifties complete with tea chest and washboard, so I couldn`t wait to see this show - and I wasn`t disappointed - the washboard is still going strong.
Rocking their way onto the stage to take us into part one were three very talented musicians, The Legends.
Featuring icons from the era that started rock n roll, their renditions of the hits of Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Cash, Tommy Steele and Joe Brown (to name but a few) were performed to perfection.
Plenty of Singing the Blues, A Picture of You and some Folsom Prison Blues, we thought it couldn`t get any better, but it did.
Part two was dedicated to the King of Skiffle, Mr Lonnie Donegan and if anyone can portray this musical legend then Paul Leegan`s your man.
Joining the Legends to perform Britian`s most successful recording artist before the Beatles he had no problem getting through his string of hits,
Tom Dooley, Have A Drink on me, Battle of New Orleans and many more.
Of course we couldn`t forget Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour? which ended a great night`s entertainment at this excellent venue.
